History

Clay is one of the first materials used by man.

A person cleaning the ashes of a furnace sees a piece of clay hardened by heat. It was the clay he used to make. From then on, people began to "cook" clay products to give them strength.

If we keep a pottery (clay) pot in our hunter for a while, the pot becomes red from the heat of our hands. Such warmth gives us a sense of comfort and peace. This is because clay absorbs negative energy and transmits it to us from space, the sun, wind and water.

Ceramics (Greek "keramos" - clay) - is a product made of a mixture of clay, sand and other natural materials.

Production of ceramics in the South Caucasus in the Neolithic period emergence and development

With the sedentary life of human beings, a number of cultures emerged, but after a certain period of time they disappeared. The study of these cultures is important in terms of a deeper understanding of the past and the study of the early foundations of the civilization we have today. The most notable stage in the development of ancient societies was the so-called "Neolithic Revolution". During this period, people left temporary natural shelters, moved to a sedentary lifestyle, built permanent housing, and began to live in villages.

The use of pottery, one of the most important indicators of a sedentary lifestyle, along with the emergence of new methods of storage and preparation of food, has led to an increase in the range of dishes and the rise of food culture. Animal and human figures made of baked earth, one of the oldest material remains in human history, show that people have been able to shape and harden clay since ancient times. Extensive research suggests that with the beginning of the Neolithic period in the Middle East, the use of clay increased, during which clay was first used as a plaster in architecture and later as a building material. has been. It is known that people who obtained their food by hunting and gathering long before the production of ceramics did not produce pots from baked earth, but used pots made of stone or baskets made of stone, leather, wood or other organic materials.

The discovery of pieces of clay with traces of baskets in some monuments of the Neolithic period without ceramics shows that the first attempts to make clay pots began with the baskets being soaked in clay and dried in the sun. The fact that sedentary people needed healthy and easy-to-make containers to store agricultural and livestock products was one of the main reasons why they produced ceramics from baked soil, so different clay pots appeared in different regions.
