SUMMARY
This dissertation is dedicated to the Brexit, the withdrawal of the United
Kingdom (UK) from the European Union (EU). The United Kingdom voted for
leaving the European Union in the referendum held in June 2016. This thesis aims to
investigate root causes of Euroscepticism in the UK, systematically review Brexit
legal process and framework and identify its main effects to the relationships of the
UK with EU and non-EU countries.
The thesis includes introduction, 3 Chapters, Result and Reference Part.
The introduction shows how the topic is necessary in terms of politics and
economy on national, regional and international level. This part explains aims and
objectives of the dissertation as well as data collection. It also includes methods used
while researching, scientific and practical importance of the thesis.
Chapter I in the thesis is called “European Union and the United Kingdom”.
This chapter touches on the issues such as factors triggered the creation of the EU,
legal bases of the Union and its enlargement strategy. In addition to these, it includes
facts and information regarding the position of the UK in foundation of the EU,
acceptance of the UK to the membership of the EU and UK’s position in deepening
and widening integration inside the Union.
Chapter II of the thesis is called “Departure of the United Kingdom from the
European Union”. This chapter finds out main reasons of the Brexit idea, gives
information about Brexit referendum and its results and investigates legal regulations
of Brexit and probable cooperation models for both sides.
Chapter III of the thesis is called “States and Brexit”. It includes reactions of
the EU Institutions and the world countries towards Brexit and research regarding the
further relations between the UK and other countries such as EU countries, Russia
and USA.
Result concludes the main points of the dissertation and gives a few words
related to the impact of Brexit on Azerbaijan.
