Based on a review of previous research, student readiness and experiment skills can be improved
with the Technology-Embedded Scientific Inquiry (TESI) model [6]. Using these models can be used
to improve the ability of high-level scientific investigations. Role-playing
can also be applied as a
strategy used to improve students' readiness in experiments [7]. Role-playing provides real experience
to students, encourages the development of active skills, knowledge and attitudes. Good preparation can
improve skills, independence, reduce boredom and give satisfaction to students in practicing [8]
,
[9].
Researcher gives ideas to improve the readiness and experiment skills based on technology by using
proteus software as a virtual laboratory. Using proteus before experiment activities can be as a means
of providing virtual experience to students before practicing. Proteus provides fitures to model various
circuits using various types of components [10]–[12]. The results of modeling
can reflect actual real
conditions.
Students’ motivation will be raised with the additional knowledge through series modeling.
Motivation will provide positive energy as an early sign to improve student performance in experiment.
It is because students already have the same knowledge related to what will be practiced after modeling
with proteus. It is expected that the readiness and skills of experiment will increase while the gained of
students’ understanding.
Based
on these problems, research will be carried out aiming to
find out whether there is a
relationship between the use of proteus on students’ readiness and process
skills in laboratory
experiment. The modelling application (proteus) is used before experiment on digital electronics subject.
