UNIVERSITY EDUCATION IN UZBEKISTAN 
There are a number of Universities in Uzbekistan. They are mainly in 
Tashkent, Samarkand, Fergana and Nukus. Of these National University of 
Uzbekistan is the oldest one. As a rule a University consists of a number of 
different departments. 
The students of our University have favorable conditions for study and 
research: they have necessary equipment, laboratories and libraries. Each 
department has its own library and reading rooms. The reading-rooms are on the 
ground floor. They are large, well-lit with many windows. There are Uzbek, 
Russian and foreign books, as well as newspapers and magazines there. One can 
see a lot of students in the reading-rooms before and after classes. They can 
prepare for their lessons there, read articles and books. The students who do well

receive an allowance from the University. There are also correspondence and 
evening courses for those who wish to combine work and study. At these 
courses all students have an opportunity to attend lectures and to have laboratory 
classes and consultations. The teaching staff consists of professors, assistant-
professors, senior teachers and teachers. Advanced students can take part in 
research.
