Menacing (adj) 
- making you think that someone is going to do something bad. 
Example: a menacing look/gesture.

To alienate (v) 
- to make someone feel that they are different and not part of a 
group.
Example: Disagreements can alienate teenagers from their families.

Ensuing (adj) 
- happening after or following something else.
Example: In the ensuing decades he specialized in neurology.

To descend into smth (phr verb) 
- if a situation descends into a particular state, it 
becomes worse.
Example: The demonstrations in the capital rapidly descended into anarchy.

Renowned (adj) (C2) 
- famous for something.
Example: The region is renowned for its outstanding natural beauty.

To inculcate (v) 
- to fix beliefs or ideas in someone’s mind, especially by repeating 
them often.
Example: Our coach has worked hard to inculcate a team spirit in/mto the players.

Empathetic (adj) 
- having the ability to imagine how someone else feels.
Example: A number of special programmes train doctors to be empathic.

Contemplative (adj) 
- involving quiet and serious thought for a period of time. 
Example: Her mood
was 
calm and contemplative.

- a person who is interested in modern technology and enjoys using 
it.

To articulate (v) 
- to express in words.
Example: I found myself unable to articulate my feelings.
To blur (v) 
- to make the difference between two things less clear, or to make it 
difficult to see the exact truth about something.
Example: This film blurs the line/distinction/boundary between reality and fantasy.
