ACTIVITY: Teacher Silent Time Activity
What is the Teacher Silent 
Time activity? 
•
After asking a question, most teachers do not give students time to 
understand the question and think about an answer. 
•
Teacher Silent Time happens when the teacher asks a student a 
question and then remains patiently silent for 5-10 seconds. The 
teacher creates a “thinking time” space for the student.

Time activity in your 
classroom?

You are modelling “thinking time” and showing students that 
“thinking time” is extremely important and okay before answering 
questions.
