3. Objective Examination (Status praesens objectivus)
The patient must be examined according to the principles acquired previously in internal medicine propaedeutics. Pathologic changes have to be described thoroughly and it is also necessary to include the description of negative objective findings (e. g a features of the disease the patient does not have). Describe the patient´s general condition (contact, consciousness, behaviour, position of the patient in bed or any other prominent features). The results of visual examination, palpation, percussion and auscultation should be classified based on organ systems. Thoroughness of the organ system description depends on which subspeciality the student chooses. The description must be thorough enough to give cause for primary diagnosis.
