30- Some people trust their first impressions about a person’s character 
because they believe these judgments are generally correct. Other 
people do not judge a person’s character quickly because they believe 
first impressions are often wrong. 
Discuss both these views and give your opinion. 
Leaving a good impression upon the people we meet especially the ones we 
meet for the first time is now common practice, but judging a person by his or 
her appearance or the impression they create cannot be considered a 
sensible policy; however, there are people who trust their judgments about a 
person’s character based on their first impressions. 
Some people know that people might not be what they pretend or claim to be; 
as a result, they think first impressions are always wrong. They try not to 
evaluate people merely based on how they appear or how they try to assert 
themselves, rather they try to base their evaluation on other variables such as 
people’s thoughts, achievements in life, relations with others, their friends, 
their beliefs etc. Hence, even though these people have taken the issue to an 
extreme, I think they will make fewer mistakes than those who trust their first 
impressions since they appear to be intelligent or they might deign to speak 
with a person who appears to be below par. 
However, Others believe one must not adopt a radical approach to the 
problem; for them, appearance is very important too. A person cannot have an 
unkempt and disheveled appearance and advise others about cleanliness. In 
fact such a person is a hypocrite. Generally taking into account many 
variables before making a decision about a person’s character and 
appearance is definitely one of the important variables. 
In conclusion, I believe that human beings are more complex than we could 
make up our mind about their character by simply looking at them; therefore, 
people must try to pay attention to many variables affecting a person’s 
character before making a judgment.
