The study 
investigates the phenomenon of 
embellishment
, a stylistic feature that characterizes 
Chinese translations of contemporary English children’s literature. Embellishment, which 
is viewed by the authors as a form of lexical over-explicitation, is found in five out of the 
six translations included in the corpus. The authors conclude that the phenomenon can be 
explained in terms of translators’ choices and editors’ preferences.
