Facial Affect Scoring Technique (FAST) media n. Facial Action Coding System (FACS) paraling n. The system was invented in 1978 by the US psychologists Paul Ekman (1934-) and Wallace V. Friesen, and psychologist, psychiatrist and neuroscientist Richard J. Davidson (1951-). It has an accompanying Facs Manual and an associated Investigator’s Guide, and was updated in 2002 by the first two authors and the behavioral scientist Joseph C. Hager. It was designed to investigate and measure the way in which the movement of facial muscles contributes to the expression of key emotions such as happiness and sadness, surprise and disgust. ****
