The key component of the international conferences and meetings is about deciding on adequate interpreter. The quality 

of the communication depends on how proficient the interpreter is and under which circumstances it occurs. Conference 

interpreters provide communication between the people whose languages and cultures are distinct from each other. They 

play a bridge role in the areas that expounders can express ideas in their native language and at the same time wish for 

communicating with foreigners.  

Conference translation does not take into account any written translation. An interpreter should translate in both 

directions without the use of any dictionaries during translation process in contradistinction to translator. There are two 

types of interpreting: simultaneous and consecutive translation. During simultaneous translation interpreter talks at the same 

time with the speaker and conveys the speech he hears through headsets instantly. Simultaneous translation equipments 

consist of soundproof booth for interpreter, microphone for speaker and headphone system for audition. The interpreter can't 

start interpreting until he understands the general meaning of the sentence. However, during consecutive translation 

interpreter translates sentence or paragraph, after speaker finishes, via the notes he took in the course of the speech. This 

kind of translation doesn’t entail any tool except microphone. A key skill involved in consecutive interpreting is note-

taking, since few interpreters can memorize a full paragraph at a time without loss of detail. 

Conference translation is quite challenging since it requires knowing foreign language in a sophisticated way and 

exceptional language aptitude. The number of professional conference interpreters in the world is approximately a few 

thousands. This job necessitates profound common culture, comprehensive terminological grasp in various areas and being 

capable of doing abrupt switches between two languages as well as having accurate control of these two languages. 

Moreover, trustworthiness, in other words, to esteem to the privacy of the current conference, is one of the essential features 

of a satisfactory interpreter’s. Additionally, you should take into consideration each and every detail such as speaker’s style 

or speech tone. Just like not all the translators can do simultaneous or consecutive translation, nor can everyone knowing 

foreign language be an interpreter. Proficiency is prerequisite of perceiving correctly and making accurate sense. Over and 

above that, an adept conference translator’s distinctive characteristics include knowing extensive vocabulary in both 

languages, being able to get indications in discourse, possessing specific note-taking system, high degree of responsibility, 

being good at human relations, having the ability of concentrating, speaking publicly, tackling stressful moments, delivering 

current message accurately and quickly. Furthermore, you can get them especially through comprehensive education period. 

And, last but not least, education is not completed until you have at least 2-3 years of experience.  

Translations, made by unspecialized people, can lead whole organization to the terrible situations. The Automatic 

Translation projects that were popular since 1950's failed, generally because translation is about getting the basic meaning. 

Conference translation is not about translating words and sentences following one after another, but transferring 

fundamental context and notions from source language to target language. When the interpreter accomplishes to make 

listeners feel like there is no means and manages to result in the dialogue much the same as direct communication, then it 

means he implements his duty excellently. Hence, employers display extreme sensitivity to expertness while recruiting 

interpreters. 

Consequently, conference translation plays very important role over all development areas in the contemporary world, 

thus people should pay attention to its inevitable progress.
