The people of Azerbaijan proudly celebrate the anniversary of the glorious Victory in the Patriotic War on November 8 - Victory Day.
On September 27, 2020, in response to the large-scale provocations by the enemy on the front line, the Azerbaijani Army launched a counter-attack operation by order of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev. Karabakh and surrounding areas were freed from occupation as a result of the operations. The 44 days Patriotic War ended the occupation and the restored our territorial integrity.
The glorious Victory by our victorious Army under the leadership of the Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev was written in golden letters in our history. This great victory was a celebration of President, People and Army union and showed the military and economic power of Azerbaijan to the world.
From the first days of the Patriotic War, our constantly advancing army crushed the enemy and liberated our settlements one after another. It is beyond any doubt that the peak of our Victory was the liberation of the city of Shusha, the crown of Karabakh on November 8.
Shusha operation is the brightest page of our military history. The experience and tactics of Azerbaijan conducting the war of the 21st century, is highly valued by military experts and is studied in the world's leading military schools. Traveling a long distance for several days with weapons in off-road conditions, freeing Shusha by crossing roads considered impassable is valued as an example of unprecedented bravery and heroism.
Today, Karabakh has already begun to revive. The restoration of the released territories being historical turning point and a new strategic stage in the socio-economic development of the country will ensure a great return to the region.
Restoring the released territories and ensuring a large return plan are among the main directions in the draft state budget for 2023.
Glorious 44 days leading to Great Victory of Azerbaijan
Soldiers and officers who showed heroism, peaceful inhabitants who worked in the rear - all the Azerbaijani people, having manifested determination and will, unity and solidarity, united in one fist, inflicted devastating blows on Armenia during the 44-day Second Karabakh War [from late Sept. to early Nov.2020], which became for Azerbaijan a matter of honor in the struggle for sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country.
Azerbaijan highly appreciates the heroism of its brave sons and daughters and gives tribute to the memory of its martyrs. September 27 is marked as the Day of Remembrance in Azerbaijan as a sign of deep respect to the memory of Azerbaijani soldiers and officers, all Azerbaijani martyrs who fought heroically in the second Armenia-Azerbaijan Karabakh war, and sacrificed their lives for the territorial integrity of the country and raised the Azerbaijani flag in the ancestral lands of Azerbaijan.
During the 44 days of military operations, the Azerbaijani army had defeated the Armenian armed forces and liberated Jabrayil, Gubadly, Zangilan, Fuzuli districts, a large part of Khojavand district, a number of villages in Lachin district from the Armenian occupation. At the same time, they liberated five cities, four settlements, 286 villages, and numerous strategic heights.
On November 8, after 28 years of the Armenian occupation, there was liberated the city of Shusha, which has a great spiritual and symbolic meaning for the Azerbaijani people. As a result, Armenia had no choice but to sign the act of capitulation.
