Language Assessment - Theory with Practice
188
English (i.e., I, You, He, She, It, We, You, They)
are created in Simple
Present and Present Continuous Tenses.
=The exercise requires students to transform the sentences as the
information in the parentheses require (e.g., Original sentence:
I love
chocolate (not) → Expected sentence:
I do not love chocolate.)
=Every student is given a DGT sheet and asked to read the instructions.
=The DGT sheet includes two examples
showing the meaning of the
information in the parentheses.
=Sts are given 15 min to work on the exercise by themselves.
Stage 2: Peer Assessment
=After the time is up, the T asks Sts to choose
a partner and exchange
worksheets.
=Sts are asked to look at each other’s ‘new sentences’ and to decide
whether they are correct (i.e., sentences are grammatical and fulfil the
requirements listed in the parentheses) or incorrect.
=If the sentences are correct
the Sts are asked to put a ‘
‘in the ‘Is the
new sentence correct?’ column, if they think the sentence is not correct
they are asked to put an
‘X’.
=The Sts are asked to provide the correct version of
the sentences they
classified as incorrect.
=Sts are given 10 min to complete this part of the exercise.
Stage 3: Peer and Self-Assessment
=Sts are given 10 min and instructed to share and discuss each other’s
answers.
=At that stage they are also asked to check their books/notes again and
talk about the rules they followed while completing Stage 1 and Stage
2 of the exercise.
=Sts are asked to rewrite the sentences once again if they think that
there are still problems with the transformed sentences (i.e., if they
think the correction was incorrect).
