The practical value of the course paper. Teachers can come out with
interesting, authentic and essential topics that students can discuss or talk about
especially in the target language. The related topics should be easy and
understandable. As a start English language teachers can relate the topics with
students' interests before moving to serious topics like national issues or the world
politics. Lastly , in class or group discussions, whatever the aim is, the students
should always be encouraged to ask questions, paraphrase ideas, express support,
check for clarification, and so on.
The structure of the course paper consists of introduction, two chapter,
involving four sub parts, the conclusion, bibliography

CHAPTER I. THE IMPORTANCE OF LANGUAGE TEACHING

1.1. Teaching language teaching through Role-Play
Language teaching are an essential part of communication, both in personal
and professional settings. Being able to express oneself effectively through speech
is critical for success in various aspects of life, including education, career, and
social interactions. However, many people struggle with speaking confidently and
articulately. Role-play is a valuable tool for teaching language teaching as it
provides students with an opportunity to practice their communication abilities in a
safe environment. Role-play allows individuals to take on different roles and
personas, which can help them overcome shyness or anxiety that might inhibit their
ability to speak effectively. One of the primary benefits of role-play is that it allows
students to practice speaking in different scenarios. For example, they can learn how
to interact with customers or clients in a business setting or how to navigate difficult
conversations with family members or friends. These scenarios can be tailored to the
individual's needs or interests, making the learning experience more engaging and
relevant.
Role-play also helps students develop their critical thinking and problem-
solving skills. By taking on different roles and scenarios, they must think on their
feet and respond appropriately to unexpected situations. This helps them become
more adaptable and confident in their ability to communicate effectively
2

Another advantage of role-play is that it encourages active listening skills.
When playing a role in a scenario, students must listen carefully to what the other
person is saying so they can respond appropriately. This reinforces the idea that
effective communication involves both speaking and listening.
Role-play also promotes creativity and imagination as students must create
unique characters and situations based on the scenario provided. This can be

Confidence" by Judith Wilson et, 2015, p-12

particularly beneficial for students who struggle with traditional learning methods
such as lectures or written assignments.
In addition to these benefits, role-play also provides an opportunity for
feedback and self-reflection. After each scenario, students can discuss what worked
well and what could be improved upon. This feedback helps them identify areas
where they need improvement while also recognizing their strengths.
There are some challenges associated with using role-play as a teaching tool,
such as the need for adequate preparation and planning. The scenarios must be
carefully designed to ensure they are relevant and engaging for the students.
Additionally, some students may feel uncomfortable or embarrassed when playing
different roles.
However, these challenges can be overcome through proper training and
support. Teachers can provide guidance and encouragement to help students feel
more comfortable with the process. They can also incorporate other teaching
methods, such as group discussions or written assignments, to reinforce the learning.
In conclusion, language teaching are essential for success in various aspects
of life. Role-play is a valuable tool for teaching language teaching as it allows
students to practice communication in different scenarios and develop critical
thinking and problem-solving skills. With proper planning and support, role-play
can be an effective way to improve language teaching in a safe and engaging
environment.
Simulations are very similar to role-plays but what makes simulations
different than role plays is that they are more elaborate

. In simulations, students can
bring items to the class to create a realistic environment. For instance, if a student is
acting as a singer, she or he brings a microphone to sing and so on. Role plays and
simulations have many advantages. First, since they are entertaining, they motivate
the students. Second, as Harmer suggests, they increase the self-confidence of

hesitant students, because in role play and simulation activities, they will have a
different role and do not have to speak for themselves, which means they do not have
to take the same responsibility
In this activity, students are supposed to be working in pairs. One student will
have the information that other partner does not have and the partners will share their
information. Information gap activities serve many purposes such as solving a
problem or collecting information. Also, each partner plays an important role
because the task cannot be completed if the partners do not provide the information
the others need. These activities are effective because everybody has the opportunity
to talk extensively in the target language.
Students can briefly summarize a tale or story they heard from somebody
beforehand, or they may create their own stories to tell their classmates. Story telling
fosters creative thinking. It also helps students express ideas in the format of
beginning, development, and ending, including the characters and setting a story has
to have. Students also can tell riddles or jokes. For instance, at the very beginning of
each class session, the teacher may call a few students to tell short riddles or jokes
as an opening.
Students can conduct interviews on selected topics with various people. It is
a good idea that the teacher provides a rubric to students so that they know what type
of questions they can ask or what path to follow, but students should prepare their
own interview questions. Conducting interviews with people gives students a chance
to practice their speaking ability not only in class but also outside and helps them
becoming socialized. After interviews, each student can present his or her study to
the class. Moreover, students can interview each other and "introduce" his or her
