charges of polar covalent molecules.
This interaction is referred to as a hydrogen bond.
This type of bond is common; for example, the
hydrogen bonds between the molecules of water give the substance its liquid state (Figure 8). Hydrogen bonds
are responsible for the unique characteristics of water that enable life. Without hydrogen bonds, water would
be a gas at room temperature
instead of a liquid
