Two-dimensional basin simulators (like PetroMod, TemisPack etc.) use
as a framework both 2-D seismic interpretation results and digital images in
other formats derived from widely used structural modeling software depicting
paleo- and present-day sections.
3-D modeling has a number of advantages. This can be especially useful
when studying the effectiveness of different petroleum systems. If several
hydrocarbon-forming intervals are involved in the basin through 3-D models
complex synthesis of the processes and quantities can be conducted and
quantitatively expressed [3].
Conclusion The estimation methods of undiscovered resources may be combined
into three major directions: empiric, statistical and basin modelling methods.
Traditional methods are comparatively simple; however, in their application
subjective definition of parameter values is inevitable. Since selection of input
parameters and reference areas is largely subjective process, personal
visions of the experts heavily impact estimations. Accordingly, the range of
uncertainty in prognosticated values are not always easily understood by
others. There is a certain connection between the reliability degree of
predictive estimation and uncertainty degree of input parameters. Particularly,
this feature caused the occurrence of statistical methods realizing the
definition of supposed boundaries of predictive estimation reliability.
Software means of basin modeling can generate geological, geophysical
and physical-chemical processes taking place in sedimentary series in the
form of specific numbers and values. Innovative approach to their usage may
provide a notable contribution to the solution of fundamental issues in oil and
gas geology, exploration and survey of hydrocarbons as well. They may be
