through the process pipe and transmitting the relevant signal to the PID
controller. The process flow is regulated and kept as near as possible to the
set point by the control valve through the received signal as an output of the
controller action. Hence, the correct selection of each loop element and the
proper tuning of PID controller is the key to oscillation free control operation.
In order to realize and implement the flow control loop, Emerson test rig
has been utilized as a model of flow control application. Following equipment
has been reviewed and selected for the implementation of the flow control
loop:
Coriolis Flow Meter Elite series+2400 Tx
EZ control valve - 667 actuator- DVC6000
DeltaV Hardware & Software (Control Studio)
Variable Frequency Drive
The implementation process has been started by configuration of the
control system utilizing DeltaV software. During the configuration, the
function blocks have been built and downloaded to the controller by
establishing the proper communication between the devices. Following the
system start up, necessary tuning of the controller has been performed in
order to ensure proper and smooth operation of the flow control system at
the test rig. As a result of successful control operation, the following output
documents have been developed: I/O list, BOM, C&E diagram, Electrical
Diagram, Interconnection diagram, Instrument index, P&ID.
To summarize, in the pre-implementation stage, the technologies
required for building a flow control loop was selected alongside with the
identification of the key parameters belonging to the selected devices. After
completing the software and hardware configuration, the proper flow control
loop has been ensured through DeltaV control system during implementation
providing the relevant output documents. Moreover, the further development
is achieved by creating instructions for the university undergraduates to
perform the implementation as a laboratory work.
