The article studies theories and ideas on the theoretical interpretation of the problem of
social security of the population in the economic literature and explains the economic essence
of social security. Therefore, objects and subjects of social security are distinguished and the
notions of social policy and social security are precisely defined. Moreover, the principal
models and levels of social security are presented.
Furthermore, the structure of social security is represented and social guarantee, social
aid and social insurance are interpreted separately as basic elements of social security in the
article.
