SYPHILIS (Lues) is a chronic recurrent infectious disease that is
characterized by a consistent periodicity and a regular change of active and latent
periods.
With syphilis, the skin, mucous membranes, internal organs, bones and
nervous system are affected. The disease begins from the moment the causative
agent of syphilis penetrates into the body - pale treponema (Treponema palidum).
Ways of infection with syphilis:
- Sexual - the absolute number of infections occurs this way with various forms of
sexual contact (per vaginum, per anum, per os);
- Household - infection occurs with close household contact, as well as through
household items or direct contact with experimental animals;
- Transplant (vertical) - intrauterine infection of the fetus from an infected mother
occurs. A sick child can only be born to a sick mother;
- Blood transfusion - infection occurs when Treponema palidum enters directly
into the blood, for example, when transfused.
Syphilis is characterized by a wave-like course with changing periods of the
disease.
