1. Learning Circles for Teachers
:
Collaborative Professional Development
Karin deJonge-Kannan
Utah State University, Logan, Utah, USA
(Abstract)
English teachers may pursue a variety of formal and informal opportunities for professional
development. While formal events such as conferences, symposia, workshops, and seminars
have their benefits, such events often rely on outside experts. On the other hand, learning circles
can be organized with peers anytime, anywhere (Collay et al, 1998). In this presentation, I will
share my experience with learning circles for teachers. The practical framework of learning
circles as well as their benefits (Bond & Blevins, 2020; Himelein & Anderson, 2020) will be
discussed.
2. Principles of teacher training materials development
Dr. Svetlana Khan (PhD) pedagogical sciences
Mercy Corps in Uzbekistan
(Abstract)
The education system in Uzbekistan has been changed recently. Significant steps for
improvement have been made already, although there is still much room for improvement
including In-SET teacher training courses. It is obvious that in order to assure high quality
training trainers should be trained and supported. Trainers with no professional training are not
in a position to provide high quality training. Materials for training are needed to help trainers to
have a framework and generic training principled training approaches. In the session participants
will explore principles of effective teacher training materials.

defining the concepts of “identity”, “communicative identity”, “professional identity”,
professional “communicative identity” are in focus. Efficient methods based on this principal
categories are presented in the interdisciplinary aspects as the general approach for the
