Sweden is a constitutional monarchy state located on the Scandinavian Peninsula in Northern Europe. The country has land borders with the Kingdom of Norway in the west and Finland in the north-east. It opens to the Gulf of Bothnia and the Baltic Sea in the east, and to the Skagerrak, Balt and Oresund straits in the southwest. It has land transport routes with Denmark via the Öresund Bridge in the southwest.

Stockholm is the capital of the Kingdom of Sweden. Melaren is located on the eastern shore of the lake. The population is about 2,000,000. In the metropolitan area with an area of 6,519 km², the population is 2 million people. According to 2009 statistics, 22 percent of the Swedish population lives in the Stockholm metropolitan area. The King's residence, Arlanda International Airport, Government Building are located in this city. Stockholm is sometimes called the "Venice of the North".

Natural resources

Sweden is a country rich in mineral resources. Iron ore is especially important. Rich in copper and zinc, Sweden has deposits of gold, silver, tungsten, nickel and coal.


Free kindergartens are available for children ages 1-5. Children and young people between the ages of 6-16 are provided with compulsory secondary education. 90 percent of young people who have completed 9 years of education continue their education in higher classes for 3 years. Upper classes are called gymnasium in Sweden. The students who graduate here get the opportunity to get a job and get the right to apply for higher education. Sweden has a large number of universities and colleges, the largest and oldest of which are Uppsala University, Gothenburg University, Stockholm University, Lund University and the Royal University of Technology.

Religion
Until the 11th century, Swedes were considered pagans. The center of Swedish paganism was the temple located in the city of Uppsala. In the 11th century, the country adopted Christianity, and all other religions were banned. This ban remained in force until the end of the 19th century. In the 16th century, a wave of reformation began in the country. The Roman Catholic Church was dissolved, the state and religion were separated. However, religious freedom was established in the country only in 1951.

ARCHITECTURE

Riddarholm Church

It is the church where the kings of Sweden are buried. It is located on the island of Riddarholm, which is part of the city of Stockholm. It has been dedicated to worship since 1807 and is used only for funerals and ceremonies. Many Swedish rulers, from Gustavus Adolphus II to Gustavus V, are buried here. Early rulers such as Magnus III and Charles VIII are also buried here.

KITCHEN

Swedish cuisine is traditionally called home and country cuisine; here the simplest products - meat, fish, cheese, game, bread prevail. Mushrooms, berries, dairy products are also used. Local residents add lingonberry jam instead of a bouquet of spices and flavor it with a variety of dishes.
