The object of research are works of art created by D. Steinbeck in 1930s: The Pastures of Heaven (1932), "Quarter Tortilla Flat" (Tortilla Flat, 1935), "And lost the fight" (In Dubious Battle, 1936), "The Leader of the People" (The Leader of the People, 1936), The Vigilante (1936), Of Mice and Men (Of Mice and Men, 1937), "Johnny Bear" (Johnny Bear, 1937), "Bunches anger ”(The Crapes of Wrath, 1939), Some attention is paid to See also Steinbeck's book The Sea of Cortez, which, although it was published in 1941, but the writer collected materials for it and generalized in the late 1930s.
The aim of this work is to study the features formation and artistic functioning of the "theory group" in the work of D. Stennbeck in the 1930s, analysis of artistic
works of the writer of this period through the prism of the concept of the group.
Based on the foregoing, the following tasks are defined:
- the definition of the concept of "group" in the understanding of D. Stennbeck, study of the socio-psychological properties of the group, patterns of behavioral reactions in the process of consideration literary works of the writer of the 1930s;
- study of artistic comprehension by D. Sgeinbeck the "mechanism" for the inclusion of the individual in the group community; study of artistic problem solving relationship between man and society, individual and group began in the psychology of personality in the prose of D. Steinbeck period;
- consideration of the problem of the primitive hero in the context society and the definition of features of artistic and functional loads of the "primitive" in the aesthetic system of D. Steinbeck;
- identification of the specifics of the development and functioning of the "theory group" in the work of D. Steinbeck in the 1930s.
Methodological basis of the dissertation research are the theoretical and methodological works of well-known domestic and Western literary critics M. M. Bakhtin, L. S. Vygotsky, L. Ya. Ginzburg, E. M. Meletinsky, F. Carpenter, V. L. Parrington, R. Spiller, D. Pizer, as well as researchers in areas of psychology 3. Freud, K. Jung, L. Adler, E. Aronson, sociology of W. Trotter, characterizing various aspects the relationship between the group and the individual, which allows us to talk about complex use of historical, literary and interdisciplinary approaches in the study of theoretical foundations concepts of J.Steinbeck's group.
