State of mind or senses:
desire, love, dismay, taste, doubt, want
Event, activity, result of action:
acclaim, hit, release, attempt, search, employ
Location of action: from transitive verbs
dump, haunt
from intransitive verbs
divide, pass, rise, lounge, retreat, turn
Instrument of action:
cover, lift, wrench, sting, cure, permit, wrap
Adjective to noun conversion is also called deadjectival. Nouns are often treated as parts of
phrases where the noun is missing:
bitter (beer), natural (talent), comic (actor), regular (customer), daily (newspaper),
roast(beef), final (game, race).[9:25]
Like other languages, the similarities and dissimilarities of conversion in English can be
learned comparatively with Karakalpak language and through this investigation language learners
will be aware about the ways of forming words using this aspect in both abovementioned languages.
The conversion in Karakalpak can usually be from adjective forming noun whose functions
are transferred from one part of speech to second different one. The particular word group is
distinguished from other word groups by its specific grammatical meanings and forms. However,
when one word group is transferred to another word group in a lexical-semantic way, it loses its
previous grammatical meanings and forms. In language, this process is called substantivation. This
can usually be met in proverbs in Karakalpak.[6] Example:
Jaqsınıń jatı bolmaydı
Jamannıń uyatı. (Karakalpak national proverb)

Erteńgisin
oylamańan erkekten bez. (Karakalpak national proverb)[8]

In this example the words
jaqsı, jaman
(good, bad-adjective) and
erteńgi (tomorrow-adverb)
are adjective and adverb in fact. But in the examples given above they lose their main functions
being changed as a noun.

In the examples given above the words
tentek, jaralı, kesel, ǵárip, mómin, námárt, márt,ıssı,
suwıq,ǵarrı they are
all adjectives but in these examples the words are changing to nouns accepting
the affixes belonging only to nouns. In contrast to English language, in Karakalpak conversion
process is mostly found between adjective and nouns in which adjectives convert to nouns omitting
some words making them the adjective. For example, the word "adam" joins to the adjectives given
in the examples above, this will not be the conversion process. They have received the affixes like
kóplik, tartim, seplik that nouns get in most occasions. Getting these affixes, they are forming new
words from an existing word belonging to adjective. Other parts of speech can also be converted but
it is rare.
