ARTISTIC MASTERY IN ALISHER NAVOI’S GHAZALS (IN THE EXAMPLE OF THE
GHAZAL “JONGA CHUN DERMEN…”)

Summary:
This article is dedicated to the analysis of the ghazal which begins “Jonga chun
dermen…” by Alisher Navoi, a great uzbek poet, thinker, and statesman. Some artistic features and
content of the ghazal are explained.

Introduction
Uzbek readers cannot imagine uzbek literature without epics, ghazals, rubois, tuyuqs created
by Alisher Navoi, since he won the hearts of readers with his skillful use of words and his ability to
think deeply. "The valuable creative and scientific heritage of Alisher Navoi plays an important role
not only in the history of our nation, but also in the history of the world literature, in the
development of our national culture and literary and aesthetic thinking" [1]. As Zahiriddin
Muhammad Bobur, king and poet, said about Navoi, “Turkiy tilda hech kim oncha ko’p va xo’b
aytgan emas”[2.233] (“ No one in the Turkic language has said as much and well as him”). He is
indeed an incomparable poet not only in terms of the size and number of his literary heritage, but
also content and high artistry. His getting creative in 16 genres of literature is an example of above-
mentioned opinions. Especially, a ghazal is a genre that fully demonstrates his creative abilities.
That is why, he was described by Maqsud Shaykhzoda as “ King of ghazal property”. His ghazals
are still popular among people and have not lost their value.
