Preparation of Ceria Based Electrolytes For Solid Oxide Fuel Cells
Fuel Cell Systems is the fundamental subject of energy technologies which provide most important part of energy requirement of the world. Fuel cells consist of electrolyte and anode/cathode parts. In fuel cells, electrolyte is the most effective part in performance. Nowadays alkali, molten carbonate, polymer electrolyte membran (PEM), solid oxide (SOFC) fuel cell types are existent. Recently, PEM and SOFC types of fuel cells are common availability on portable and fixed energy systems. The major problem of SOFC systems is necessity on high temperatures. So; developing new electrolyte material that is high ionic conductibility on lower temperature and keeps high conductibility on long term works and eventually making SOFC applications productive and common is the main intension. Therefore; electrolytes that are the main parts of fuel cells are intented to prepare as nano sized and ceria based by Pechini method which depends on solid particules (sol) exist as suspansion on liquid phase, making a different phase (gel) with water or alcohol exiting and by Polyol method which has general reaction mechanism that contains dissolution of inorganic solid components, reduction in solution, homogeneous nucleation and growing of metallic phase. In the present study, desired research is effects on conductivity of Cerium Oxide that is doped with Samaria and comparing of different preparation methods that are used. This research will attend to light up the structure of electrolytes by XRD, SEM, TG/DTA analysis and find optimal conditions for synthesizing electrolytes by Pechini method. Conductivity will measure by Impedance Analyzer.
