The Assessment of Indoor Air Quality Inside Metallic Industry Workplaces
At the present day, the basic factor is water and air environment pollutions that determined with a great many of studies. WHO have determined that million of people died in every year by air pollution. Indoor air pollutions that life and workplace environment are controlled together with outdoor pollution. Occupational Healthy and Safety consept are applied as occupational accident in Turkey. In our country, 19.5% of the workforce works in industry and this people are spend approximately 8 hours in a day in workplaces. Accordingly, it should be get actions about occupational disease. Industries should display management with environmentally-conscious, provide to make workplace that provide to workers basic health requirements and get actions about occupational healthy and safety.
To determined concentrations with probable contaminant (PM2.5, CO, CO2, VOC, ambient temperature and humidity) an indoor air quality in workplace of a metallic industry environment and to investigated in terms of occupational healthy and safety and public health in legal regulation and to researched treatment actions. Offices and outdoor environment were measured to compare with the industry production air. Parameters were followed all day and immediately in July-August 2008, October-November 2008 and January-February 2009 periods and these concentration changes associated with production process exchanges. Isolation was built to production machines in November and concentration decreasing was determined.
At the end of study, high release was watched on PM2.5 concentration for production process variety in workplace air provided that any action was taken. PM2.5 concentrations in workplace air are higher than outdoor air approximately 2 and 8 times. After that isolation system on production machines, PM2.5 concentrations decrease approximately 8 times.
In terms of occupational health, PM2.5 concentrations are below OSHA standards, but they are above environment quality standards that EPA and WHO have described for safe public health. These values were watched 2400 μg/m3 but values were decreased below standards after isolation system.
CO, CO2 and VOC concentration’s average value range are in turn 0,8-16,0 ppm; 537,0-675,8 ppm; 0,02-0,52 ppm and these value are below limit value. When occupational expose in a long time in workplace was cared, limit values are not competence in terms of safety to personal healthy and occupational disease in occupational healthy regulation
