Studies on The Planting of Architectural Buildings at The Example of İstanbul
Architectural buildings are the main elements of a city where the city’s identity is reckoned. Cities obtain a lot of areas as cultural and social areas, as well as greenbelts inside the city and recreation areas. Nowadays, the cities are rapidly developing and growing in size. So, the population is on a high increase in those big metropolis cities. In contrast, natural areas and greenbelts are decreased and ecological balance has been damaged by many environmental reasons. Somehow, some improvements need to be done in order to have more greenbelts and natural areas.
In the inner cities, greenbelts have been disappearing gradually because of many different reasons although; architectural buildings have been on increase slowly. So, the metropolis cities become to look like a big concrete blocks. In developing cities; more concrete buildings are in sight, and they are constructed without recycling, and natural areas have turned into an asphalt pavement so concreted green areas have been appeared. It seems quite illogical and difficult to create new life areas without well structured city plans which can provide more green and compatible areas instead of the construction of city blocks which are at the center of the cities. It has been hard, consequently to create green areas at horizontal platform. For that reason, planting of building surface at the vertical platform is inevitable solution as an alternative method.
Planting of building surface is thought to contribute to cities ecology and quality, as well as to have less environmental problems which has potential bad effect on health of human beings.
Many different studies have been done on planting of building surface in the global World. Also, in our country, it is a new and very important subject. So, this topic is chosen as thesis of investigation.
Planting of building surface design is different from normal garden design. This method uses climbing and scrambling plants. Climbing and scrambling species are indispensable plants at the dense of planting areas for landscape. For these planting methods, a small size of soil is enough. Planting of building surface is needed lots of details and subject to structure of building surface and its carrying capacity.
In addition, growing strength of plant and building’s location are some important aspects to achieve best result.
This thesis aims to challenge information about plants which will be used on building surfaces, for sewing and caring methods of these plants. Moreover, advantages and disadvantages of this planting type via support materials and building surface are given in detail. Some urgent studies which needs to be done are mentioned for best result about structures. There are some other points mentioned which regard to disappearing life areas of naturally growing plants and refreshing areas henceforward, some studies are explained regarding to concern to city of Istanbul where planting of building surfaces, no matter true or false the explanations are presented in a part of this study.
With outcomes of this project, it has been aimed that all related information to planting of building surface are explained. The architectural buildings in Istanbul thought to be illustrated as a material regardless to any planting right or wrong were suggested along some supportive materials. And it has been aimed that suggestion projects must be done.
