Experimental Analysis of Vibrations of a Building Model
In the thesis study that is named ‘Experimental Analysis of Vibrations of a Building Model’, fundamental work has been implemented to protect building structures that are exposed to external vibrations and people living in these buildings.
Literature on reducing vibrations on structural systems from an external source has been reviewed and summarized. A building model formed with steel sheets and steel columns has been prepared to conduct experiments. Material properties used in the model has been examined. After determining initial conditions on the building model free vibration experiments executed. Study on the results of these experiments has been directed to construct a simulation that represents experimental conditions.
Mitigating the effects of vibrations from an external source has been studied. A dynamic absorber that has been prepared on the building model has been studied. Results of the experiments and computer simulations has been compared in order to see the effect of dynamic absorber on vibrations. Results of simulation study that are close to experimental results show that experiments and simulation are in conformity.
In conclusion buildings with dynamic absorbers are resistant to external exposures like earthquakes and protect structures from hazardous effects of these exposures.
