Vendor managed inventory in supply chain management and an application
In this study, vendor managed inventory, as an alternative to traditional supply chain management model, is presented. To achieve the benefits of VMI system, firstly a literature research is been carried out for supply chain management, inventory and inventory control systems. Then, some new models in supply chain management are discussed and one of these models such as VMI, is analyzed widely.
To be able to understand this study clearly, the economic order quantity model in traditional supply chain model is analyized and then the results of EOQ model under VMI is discussed with an application in white good industry.
As a result of this study, it is been observed that, VMI system is better for the customer to outsource their operations and altough inventory holding cost is increased for the supplier, but the total system cost is reduced.
