Geographical Information System Aided Production and Logistics Optimization and an Application in Asphalt Industry
Logistics sector operates on the principle of delivering the “right product “ to the customers at the “right time” and at the “right place” for an acceptable cost.
In this respect, Information Technologies take an important place in all logistics activities.
Logistics information should be gathered with speed and accuracy when required.
Vehicle Tracking Systems are knowledge based technologies that provide solutions to all companies operating vehicle fleets by reducing the fuel costs, which is a considerable expenditure item, and by establishing the fleet discipline to increase overall performance and productivity.
The V.T.S. systems operate on the basic principle of carrying the location data, gathered from the GPS satellite, together with similar data collected by various sensors on the vehicle to the central control through the GSM/GPRS and presenting this information to the users on the internet in a controlled way.
In this thesis, studies are conducted by utilizing GPS applications involving V.T. Systems.
The aim with the application was to asses the ability of reporting of logistical problems occurring among different locations of delivery by an asphalt producer company.
The objectives of this study is briefly given in the first part. In the second part, followed, subjects like Geographical Information Systems, Logistics Management, Corporation Resource Management and Vehicle Tracking Systems are generally mentioned and literature reviews of these subjects are presented.
In the third part, Fuzzy C Mean Algorithms, Center of Gravity Management, matching the present plant facilities to the centers of clusters, MySAP Corporation Resource Management, Vehicle Tracking Systems and the model which is the integratation of these systems are mentioned. In the fourth section, data gathered by the system implemented and the details of this system is explained.
In the final section of this study, general evaluations and a cost analysis of the study undertaken is given.
