Demand Forecasting Methods in Supply Chains and Application of an Artificial Intelligence-Based Forecasting Model

Supply Chain Management has become one the most important competitive area in today’ s business environment. Hereafter, this competition tends to be among supply chains instead of enterprises. Therefore, supply chains should be managed effectively.

The aim of supply chain management is to provide the required products or services at the right time, at the right amount with minimal cost. Simultaneous and effective management of these processes is the key factor for achieving this aim. Demand management is one of the most important components of supply chain management for better service level. In this study, firstly, the importance and the scope of demand management in supply chain management is mentioned. Then demand forecasting methods are examined. Qualitative, quantitative and artificial intelligence based methods are proposed while defining key performance factors for successful forecasting. At the last part, a detailed study of artificial neural network which is an artificial intelligence demand forecasting method is given. Performance of the method is inspected with a real life application.
