Seismic Evaluation of Buildings Via Performance Based Design: a Case Study
The purpose of the thesis is to study the basic of the performance-based analysis methods included in the Turkish Earthquake Code,2007 (TEC’07) and apply these methods on the existing Block A buildings of the Engineering Faculty located in the Avcılar Campus of Istanbul University. Additionally, according to the results and depending on the performance levels a strengthening proposal is made and an evaluation of results is presented. A literature review was performed and a definition of performance concept according to TEC’07, performance-based analysis and evaluation methods of reinforced concrete structures are presented. Next, general information and assumptions about the structural models are described in detail. As the results of linear elastic and non-linear elastic analyses, it was seen that the structure doesn’t provide “Immediate Occupancy” and “Life Safety” performance targets. A strengthening suggestion that is practically applicable was prepared for the structure and it was shown that the structures provided the performance target levels according to TEC’07.
