Brain – Computer Interface Design
Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) is a kind of communication system. In this communication system, outputs and commands do not transmit out world via normal pathways or organs but that system by recognizing and analyzing brain activity. Electroencephalography (EEG), functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), positron emission tomography (PET) and such techniques can be used in these systems. However, in retrospect the most common technique is been EEG. In this study, we aimed to produce new analysis technique uses EEG by investigating existent analyzing techniques. So a much faster and brainier BCI systems can be designed.
In this study, we first investigate the physiological structures of brain cells and formation and measuring EEG signals. So information about signals which can be used in a BCI system has obtained.
On the next step, some features extraction methods and evoked potentials were investigated and a decision on which features could be used in such system was made. In this step Coherency analysis was researched.
At the end of this investigation process, data of which would be used in the BCI system was chosen from a databank. So we would have the opportunity to compare our results with retrospect much more convenient.
In conclusion, the analysis method which we used in this study is assumed to be a different and new point of view and hopefully it will guide the researchers working in this field.
