often linked with their comparatively high oxidation potential, as well as rapid
oxidative reaction kinetics [Stasinakis A. S., 2008].
Fenton technique is a common and powerful form of AOP, where an iron
salt is supplemented into the solution, which dissociates into Fe
2+
cations,
initiation in-situ generation cycle of HO• radicals from hydrogen peroxide,
which is added to the solution to initialize the reactions. Generated radical is
a potent oxidizing agent which can sufficiently decompose contaminants
including persistent substances including phenolic ones itself. The reaction
sequence may be divided into two sections, first being the generation of HO•
radicals and the latter being degradation of phenol, going through several
intermediate forms before getting completely mineralized [Abouseoud M. et
al, 2017]:

The preferable salt compound for the Fenton-like reaction is a
composition of transitionary group metals (iron(II) in the Fenton process) and
a strong acid group. The conducted laboratory experiment utilized FeCl
2
, as
well as HCl was employed to increase the acidic properties of the medium
which boosts the treatment efficiency. On average, small-scale reaction
tends to finalize in 10-15 minutes, after which it is quenched with NaOH
solution to neutralize the pH value of the medium, leading to precipitation of
the ferrous solids to be later filtered out.
