As far as the economic feasibility and practicality are concerned, low 
concentration of the combined solution has been prepared. For preparing 
150 mL solution each surfactant of TWEEN 80, X-100 and PEG-400 were 
mixed with water, with concentration values of 5 and 10%, correspondingly. 
Every ionic liquid was mixed with different surfactants to prepare various 150 
mL solutions, respectively. The concentration numbers for ionic liquids were 
5 and 10 percent, accordingly, similar to that of surfactant. A magnetic stirrer 
has been used to stir the solution for 10 minutes to be sure that it has been 
properly dissolved. The experiment has been conducted at the laboratory, 
and the temperature of the environment was 20°C. 
CO2 absorption can be carried out in an apparatus that consists 
primarily of a gas cylinder, a vacuum pump, a gas chamber, a stainless-steel 
absorption chamber with a magnetic stirrer, a pressure sensor with a 
precision of 0.1 kPa in the experimental pressure range, and a temperature 
controller. A temperature controller was used to set the temperature of the 
absorption chamber. In one experiment, 150 mL of a mixture solution was

placed in the absorption chamber and heated to a predetermined 
temperature. To eliminate the air from the experimental instrument, the entire 
system was evacuated to a vacuum. We cleaned again, waited 5-10 minutes, 
and repeated the process 3-5 times until the instrument display data no 
longer changed. After reaching the preset pressure, the valve was closed, 
and the original pressure was recorded while the pressure on the monitor 
remained steady. Then, with the magnetic stirrer turned on, the combination 
solution began to absorb the gas. When the pressure reading remained 
stable and unchanging for 40 minutes, the system was said to have attained 
equilibrium absorption, and the equilibrium pressure was measured. The 
solution was put in the vacuum chamber for 120 minutes following the 
absorption experiment. 
An efficient environmental CO2 absorbent, TWEEN 80–[emim] [OTf]–
water combination solution, was obtained after tests and careful 
comparisons. The absorption capacity of the absorbent reached 0.798 mol/l 
at an indoor temperature under low pressure, which was equivalent to the 
effect of alkanol amine solution. The absorption data of the combined 
solution was in accordance with Henry’s law and Langmuir equation. The 
standard error was in the range of 3.7–5.1% for Henry’s law with an R-square 
of 97%. The standard error was between 1.9% and 8.9%, and the R-square 
was 99% for the Langmuir equation. Both results showed the accuracy of the 
absorption data. The TWEEN 80–[emim] [OTf]–water combination solution 
with the advantages of good reproducibility, low cost, low viscosity, and low 
consumption compared with ionic liquids. It could be used again after 
decomposition and regeneration and was expected to become a new kind of 
absorbent for CO2.
