Teachers make dreams come true because they believe they can make a difference. They help plant the seed, nurture it with love and make it grow into reality.
2014 will mark the fourth time AFTA, the Association of Fil-Am Teachers of America is conducting the search for “ULIRANG GURO” (Outstanding Filipino Teachers). It aims to recognize Filipino teachers in America who are doing exemplary work in helping American children realize their dreams of becoming great someday. It aspires to give special recognition to these teachers who left their homes in the Philippines in pursuit of greater challenges of working in a different environment. The result of their dedication in work has equipped numerous children with the necessary knowledge and expertise in the levels of elementary, secondary, business and higher education.

The Association of Fil-Am Teachers of America wishes to bestow honor to the teaching profession by honoring the Filipino teachers working in America who in one way or another have been praised and loved by their administrators or their peers in their line of teaching.

QUALIFICATIONS

• 
  A bachelor’s degree in Education with a Masters degree / Doctorate degree
  
• 
  Good moral character
  
• 
  Teachers of the elementary, secondary, business schools and higher education, either in public or private sectors
  
  • 
    who are still active in the classroom
    
• 
  Membership in an existing organization such as AFTA chapters or any organization not in conflict with AFTA’s
  
  • 
    mission and projects
    
• 
  Self- nomination is permitted.
  
• 
  Current officers and board members of AFTA, Inc. are disqualified from participating
  
• 
  Participation for at least two years with the activities of AFTA, Inc. or its chapters is a must
  
• 
  PLEASE DO NOT SEND ANY BINDERS WITH YOUR PAPER. JUST CLIP THEM AND USE AN ENVELOPE OR FOLDER
  

REQUIREMENTS FOR SUBMISSION
Copies of the following (originals to be submitted for the final selection):

• 
  Performance rating for the past 3 consecutive years attached with a copy of the formal observation report for each year
  
• 
  Written citations from the principal or any superior/ organization/politicians/ others
  
• 
  Plaques of recognition/awards/certificates from any organization/clubs/schools
  
• 
  Publications done by the teacher on any subject matter or topics here in America
  
• 
  Interviews conducted that was documented on media, either in television or publications, newspapers, magazines
  
• 
  A short essay of 300 words on any viable project that he/she can implement to help the Filipinos/teachers/ students in the Philippines
  

A Winners will each receive a Plaque and a medal

B. Semi-finalists and nominators will receive a Certificate of Recognition/ appreciation.

C. Ten winners will be selected:

2 teachers from the elementary level teaching on any required subject matter

2 teachers from the middle school level “ “ “ “ “ “ “

4 teachers from the high school level “ “ “ “ “ “ ”

1 teacher from the Business School level

1 in the college/university level
