- Phonetics is the study of human sounds and phonology is the classification of the sounds within the system of a particular language.
- Phonetics is divided into three types according to
- production(articulatory)
- transmission(acoustic)
- perception(auditive )
Duysenbaeva Naubakhar Baudouin de Courtenay’s theory of phonology - The formation of the phonological theory may be divided into two periods:
- 1.The “prephoneme” period
- 2.The “phonemic’’ period
Baudouin de Courtenay - He was an outstanding Russian an Polish scholar.
- Courtenay defined the phoneme as the “psychological”equivalent of the speech sound
Components of phonemes - Utterance breaks into sentences
- Sentences into significative words
- Words into morphological components or morphemes
- Morphemes into phonemes
N.S.Trubetskoy - He is Russian scholar
- He wrote “Principles of Phonology”which was first published in German in 1939
- Phonemes should not be considered as “building block”
