Teaching method is a way of teaching a language which is based on systematic principles and procedures, i.e., which is an application of views on how a language is best taught and learned.
Basic Concepts:
Approach - one’s viewpoint toward teaching
Method - a series of related and progressive acts performed by a teacher and students to achieve the objective of the lesson.
Technique – the personal art and style of the teacher in carrying out the procedure of teaching.
Strategy –set of decisions to achieve an objective that results in plan.
The grammar-translation method of foreign language teaching is one of the most traditional methods, dating back to the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. It was originally used to teach 'dead' languages (and literatures) such as Latin and Greek, and this may account for its heavy bias towards written work to the virtual exclusion of oral production.
