Do you work in a library that provides health information to its users? If so, there’s a reliable online health information resource that you should know about. MedlinePlus.gov is produced by the National Library of Medicine (NLM) to provide the general public with access to easy to understand health information. It contains resources on diseases, conditions, and wellness issues along with much more.
MedlinePlus can be used to learn about the latest treatments for specific medical conditions, look up information on a drug or supplement, find out the meanings of words, or view medical videos or illustrations. You can also get links to the latest medical research on different health topics or find out about clinical trials on a disease or condition. If you serve users who speak a language other than English, MedlinePlus translates to Spanish and health information in additional languages can be found in the Health Information in Multiple Languages section.
If MedlinePlus sounds like a resource that you can use at your library and you want to learn more, be sure to join NN/LM MAR on September 12, 2013 from 11:00-12:30 pm for a special session on MedlinePlus and ACA Resources. This session was designed specifically for public library staff and will provide an overview of MedlinePlus as well as highlight Affordable Care Act resources of interest.
If your library is a member of NN/LM MAR, you can order MedlinePlus brochures and bookmarks to display throughout your library. Membership is FREE –federal tax dollars at work!
