Synopsis

Introduction

Theory

  • If the titration is held between an acid and base which both are strong, the solution will be neutral at about 7 pH.

  • If a weak acid is titrated against a strong base, the value of the pH will be above 7 and the solution is basic.

  • If a strong acid reacts with a weak base, it will form acidic solution at a pH which is less than 7.

  • If the titration is between a weak acid and week base, the pH value will be almost 7 which is a neutral solution.

There are some equations that are used for defining the concentration of a base or acid.

If the concentration of an acid is unknown,

If n of a base is needed to find,

Experimental details

1.Equipment and apparatus

pH meter
There are various apparatus and equipment which are used for this experiment. An electrode and pH meter are the most important devices in the apparatus. The pH meter is an electronic technology that is used in order to measure an activity of H+ ions in the water-based solutions by demonstrating their alkalinity or acidity. Additional equipment is also needed, which they are burette with its stopcock and stand, an Erlenmeyer (conical) flask, several beakers, a magnetic stirrer, a pipette which is together with a pipette bulb.
