Tashkent is the capital of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the administrative center of the Tashkent region. The largest city in terms of population of Uzbekistan and Central Asia, the center of the Tashkent city agglomeration, the most important aviation, railway and automobile junction, as well as the political, economic, cultural and scientific center of the country.
Tashkent is located in the northeastern part of the republic, on a plain in the valley of the Chirchik river, at an altitude of 440–480 m above sea level and covers an area of 30 thousand hectares. To the east and northeast of Tashkent are the spurs of the western Tien Shan. Tashkent is located on the border of subtropical and temperate continental climatic zones. But the amount of precipitation, in comparison with the lowland semi-desert and desert areas, due to the proximity of the mountains here is quite significant. Frosts are usually quite short, but during the clearing the temperature sometimes drops to minus 20 ° C and below, in summer the temperature often reaches 35-40 ° C in the shade. The minimum temperature is 29.5 ° C (December 20, 1930), the maximum + 44.5 ° C (July 30, 1983). Spring and autumn come early. This is mainly due to the fact that the heating and cooling of the air occurs quickly due to the absence of water bodies.
