In America, we have two traditions or customs that are often practiced. The first tradition is
tipping at a restaurant. When attending a restaurant in the USA, one must always tip their waiter. You
should calculate at least 15% to 20% of the total bill as the tip to be given to your waiter. Also, we
should almost always tip our taxi drivers, hotel cleaning staff, and bellboys. It is rather quite rude if
you leave them empty handed for providing you a service. These types of jobs are often paid very
little wages, so they rely on the tips as the majority of their income. Secondly, Americans celebrate
Thanksgiving Day by having a huge feast of Turkey, vegetables, potatoes, and various pies. It is often
celebrated with your entire family and is a whole day ordeal. It starts with the women cooking in the
kitchen, the men watching the football game, and the children watching the Macy’s Day Parade.
While other countries might have some similarities to these traditions and customs, they are not the
exact same as the American’s way of tipping and celebrating what I have come to call Turkey Day.

The person whom I rely on for advice is my cousin, JJ. JJ is 10 years older than me and has been
like a big sister to me my whole life. First off, since we have pretty much grown up around each
other, she has seen me throughout my life and knows me pretty well. She knows what I would later
regret doing or not doing. So she is great in that aspect! For example, one time, I wanted to take a
dance class, but I was nervous about doing it. She told me to just do it because I would later regret
not doing so. Secondly, she doesn’t put her own opinions into her advice. She keeps it completely
subjective. This is great because you don’t want advice that is one sided. Also, she has traveled the
world and experienced so much in life already. So, when I have a problem, I can always count on her
to give me a fair and un-opinionated response.
