1 Language games


1.1 Phonetic games
1. “I hear - I don’t hear.” Purpose: the formation of phonemic hearing skills.
Game progress: students are divided into teams. The teacher pronounces the words. If he says a word that has a long vowel ... or ..., the students raise their left hand. If the named word also contains consonants ... or ..., everyone raises both hands. The teacher writes down the mistakes of the participants in the game on the board. The team that made the fewest mistakes wins.
2. "What word sounds?" Purpose: formation of the skill of establishing adequate sound-letter correspondences.
Game progress: students are offered a set of 10-20 words. The teacher begins to read at a certain speed the words in an arbitrary sequence. Students must find in the list of words spoken by the teacher and put a serial number next to each of them as they are pronounced by the teacher.
1.2 Spelling games
"Insert a letter." Purpose: checking the assimilation of spelling within the studied lexical material.
Game progress: two teams are formed. The board is divided into two parts. For each command, words are written, each of which has a missing letter. Representatives of the teams alternately go to the board, insert the missing letter and read the word.
1.3 Lexical games
1. "Word". Purpose: activation of the studied vocabulary.
Game progress: teams receive sets of cards with letters. The teacher pronounces the word; students who have the letters that make it up must make a word from the cards. The team that completes the word faster and without errors gets a point. The results of the game are summed up after a few words have been composed.
2. "Sound picture." Purpose: activation of vocabulary on the topic studied, development of dialogic speech skills.
Game progress: players form pairs. Each pair is given pictures, to which cards with the corresponding remarks are attached. With their help, you need to voice the pictures. The first pair to prepare the dialogue and reproduce it correctly wins.
3. "Story by drawing." Purpose: activation of vocabulary on the topic studied.
Game progress: players form pairs. Each couple receives a drawing depicting a room in which there are different things and objects that characterize its owner. You need to write a story about what the owner of the room is doing. The couple with the most interesting story wins.
1.4 Grammar games
1. "Modal verbs". Purpose: automation of the use of modal verbs in oral speech.
Game progress: two teams are formed. One team comes up with a sentence with a given modal verb. The other team must guess this sentence.
To this end, questions such as: Can you...? Should you...? Then the second team performs the same task, and the game continues.
2. "Ball game". Purpose: automation of the use of verb forms in oral speech.
Game progress: two teams are formed. The representative of the first team comes up with a sentence with the studied verb. He throws the ball to a partner from the second team and calls the sentence, skipping the verb. The one who catches the ball repeats the sentence, inserting the correct form of the verb, throws the ball to the partner from the first team and calls his sentence, omitting the verb, etc.
3. "Cubes". Purpose: automation of the use of constructions in oral speech.
Game progress: for the game, cubes are made, on the faces of which pictures with the image of objects or animals are pasted. The students are divided into two teams. Participants take turns coming to the table, tossing the dice and naming a sentence with a construction being worked on, corresponding to the plot of the picture on one of the faces of the dice. For each correct guess, the team receives a point. The team with the most points wins.
2 Game exercises for working with lexical and grammatical material
The main task of this group of exercises is to manage the educational and cognitive activity of students and the formation of their lexical and grammatical skills, as well as the organization of intensive independent work in the classroom in order to master the rules for using specific language units.
"Memorize things." Purpose: memorization and control of vocabulary.
Arrange items on the table for 1-2 minutes. Then cover with paper and write down the name of the items that you remember.
