CHAPTER I. RESEARCH METHODOLOGY OF THE NUCLEAR SENTENCE PATTERNS IN EXPANDING THE COMMUNICATIVE INTENTION OF THE SPEAKER

1.1 The problem of semantics and semantic functions of the sentences in Present Day Syntax

Grammar is something that produces the sentences of a language. By something we mean a speaker of English. If you speak English natively, you have built into you the rules of English grammar. In a sense, you are an English grammar. You possess, as an essential part of your being, a very complicated apparatus which enables you to produce infinitely many sentences, all English ones, including many that you have never specifically learned. Furthermore by applying your rule you can easily tell whether a sentence that you hear is a grammatical English sentence or not. The chief difficulty in learning a new language is that of changing from the grammatical mechanism of the native language to that of the new language. Indeed, every language has its own way of fitting words together to form sentences. «Every sentence has a subject and a predicament». Although you may not be like the school boy who wrote the preceding explanation, you will probably welcome a review of grammar. Knowing the names of eight parts of speech and about two dozen other terms will give you tools for improving your writing and speaking. In this qualification paper we will discuss contextual - semantic functions of the nuclear sentence patterns in expanding the communicative intention of the speaker and ways of their teaching.
