What exactly are imperative verbs (for children)?


An imperative verb is a verb that constitutes an instruction or command. For example, you might order someone to "wash the dishes" or "mow the lawn". Unsurprisingly, imperative verbs are very common in sets of instructions. If an officer is commanding soldiers (or a teacher is giving instructions to a class!) you'll find that they often use a lot of imperative verbs in their speech.
