Abstract:
Mathematics, once a science used to meet the fundamental needs 
of societies throughout history, has gained increased importance in daily life and 
in schools due to the rapid development of science and technology in recent years. 
The widespread use of mathematics in different fields and its inevitable presence in 
daily life make mathematics education essential. Therefore, learning and teaching 
mathematics is of great importance. The aim of this study is to examine the current 
issues in mathematics education. The existing problems in mathematics instruction 
can be summarized as low academic achievement of students, low scores in exams, 
and challenges faced by teachers. These problems include the density of the 
curriculum, lack of time, limited teaching methods, inadequate use of technology,

and students’ math anxiety. The research is designed using the phenomenological 
approach, which is one of the qualitative research methods. A semi-structured 
interview form developed by the researchers is used as the data collection tool. The 
data is analyzed through coding, sub-themes, themes, and content analysis using 
the phenomenological method. The study comprehensively addresses the current 
issues in mathematics education and provides solutions. Recommendations include 
teachers receiving more training, implementing new teaching methods, utilizing 
technology effectively, providing support for students to overcome math anxiety, 
and revising the curriculum. In conclusion, various steps need to be taken to address 
the current issues in mathematics education. Teachers and educational systems 
addressing these problems and generating effective solutions will enhance the 
quality of mathematics education. The study also provides recommendations for 
addressing the shortcomings encountered in mathematics instruction.
