All of the woman characters that we see in the novel are very different from one another. Appearance, beauty and
manners of each woman let us create common portray of a lady of that period. Through the Bennett sisters and other woman
characters in the novel, Jane Austen described a girlishness that society at that time required. She described the ladies with
their advantages and also with their shortcomings, and leaving us to compare the manners of ladies she also showed us the
image of accomplished woman. “A woman must have a thorough knowledge of music, singing, drawing, dancing, and the
modern languages, to deserve the word; and besides all this, she must possess a certain something in her air and manner of
walking, the tone of her voice, her address and expressions, or the word will be but half deserved” [1, 27].But, except this
she also emphasizes “and to all this she must yet add something more substantial, in the improvement of her mind by
reading” [1, 27]. The mentioned manners and qualities are very important for a lady not only of that period of time; these
qualities are required to be in a lady of our time as well. Most of these qualities we can see in Elizabeth Bennet, a lady of
deep reflection, sensible but at the same time with strong and critic character, graceful and at the same time holding unique
manners, she is a picture of perfection, heroine who has no flaws. We can find an image of accomplished woman in her
manners.
In the novel author described the silly and intelligent women characters very clearly, some of them are witty and good-
humored, and some of them are very beautiful but also suffer from lack of knowledge. Through the story we can get hints
about what a lady needs to be well introduced and accepted in the society. Education and the good manners are one of the
main solutions given by the author to settle well in the world.
