COMPREHENSION

Finding an appropriate and effective way of teaching reading comprehension is always considered as one of the most
important components of language learning by many researchers. The present study aims at investigating the effect of
cooperative reading strategies on improving reading comprehension of Iranian Intermediate EFL learners. In this research,
40 learners are selected from among 60 learners through administrating Nelson test. They are all intermediate learners
randomly assigned in two groups of experimental and control. Having taken pretest, experimental group received treatment
in cooperative reading strategies during 16 sessions whereas control group received traditional method. One week after the
last session both groups received post test. Statistical results reveal that experimental group did much better than control
group and consequently cooperative reading strategies were effective on improving their reading comprehension.
