Spread of congenital developmental defects among children in the Autonomous Republic of 
Nakhchivan, Azerbaijan 
 
The article deals with the risk factors causing congenital developmental malformations. The 
results  of  retrospective  (1990-1999)  and  prospective  (200-2008)  researches,  which  have  been 
carried out in the Autonomous Republic Of Nakhchivan, are given in the table.  
     It  was  investigated  in  the  perinatal  age  with  the  retrospective  (1990 -1999

  years)  observation  way,  with  the  purpose  of  the 
detection of the frequency, form and risks of occurrence of the congenital malformation in the 
newborns,  with  the  purpose  of  preparation  of  their  prophylactics  scheme  in  Nakhchivan 
Autonomous Republic during 20 years. 
It has been determined that, the number of the newborns with the congenital malformation

was  increased  with  age.  All  multiple  forms  of  the  congenital  malformation  with  CM 
30,4±3,4%  are  met.  Though  the  sequestrate,  congenital  malformation  of  the  cardiovascular 
system  –  19,0±2,9%  is  in  the  second  place  for  the  frequency  of  occurrence,  the  sequestrate, 
congenital  malformation  of  the  gastrointestinal  tract  –  17,9±2,8%  and  it  is  possible  to  come 
across  with  the  sequestrate,  congenital  malformation  –  10,3±2,2%  from  the  total  amount  of 
CM.
