in much of the Global South. To a large extent, the crime studies literature highlights inequality, poverty, unemployment, in
fluence
of delinquent peers, substance abuse, weak informal social controls, weak policing, among others as factors that place individuals,
groups, and communities at risk of criminal offense. Yet, these are the realities of life experiences in many parts of the Global South,
especially in large cities. The question remains, then, as to whether theories founded on the development experiences of the North
can be used to explain geography of crime and the drivers of crime in the Global South.
